EVENT BACKGROUND
The World Marathon Challenge ® is an amazing logistical and physical challenge to run seven marathons on seven continents in seven days.
Participants will fly to Union Glacier, Antarctica, deep within the Antarctic Circle, to begin their challenge of a lifetime. After the first marathon commences on the 'Frozen Continent' on 23rd January 2016, there will be a mere 168 hours left to complete the World Marathon Challenge.
During this seven-day period, participants will run consecutive, standard 42.2km marathon distances at Union Glacier (Antarctica), Puntas Arenas (Chile), Miami (USA), Madrid (Spain), Marrakech (Morocco), Dubai (UAE) and Sydney (Australia). In doing so, they will achieve the distinction of having completed marathons on each of the planet's seven continents: Antarctica, South America, North America, Europe, Africa, Asia and Australia.
Participants will inevitably suffer from marathon fatigue, jet lag, sleep deprivation, as well as enduring wide temperature fluctuations of up to 50 Degrees Celsius throughout the course of the event.
